Have you ever noticed the taunting “Start writing…” prompt that appears when you start your Substack text post? Silly Substack, as if the writing faucet just turns on by itself when we put our hands on the keyboard!
In the absence of something concrete upon which to build a poem, I just start writing random thoughts as they come up for me. Sometimes, I find fodder for a future essay or poem. Sometimes it’s just nonsense. You be the judge.

Why do people start a sentence with “Isn’t it funny” when it seldom is?
I’ve heard that nothing rhymes with orange. Don’t you just know I typed it into RhymeZone. This came up: “Gorringe” (means surname). I don’t think I’ll be using it in a poem.
You looked up RhymeZone, didn’t you? It’s a pretty good source for poets don’t you think?
The number pad on my laptop has stopped working. Yes, I hit the num lock key. I wonder why we say “hit” a key. I wonder why it is called a keyboard and why the letters, numbers, and symbols are called keys. Something to look up later.
Where did the term “middle of the road” originate?
